Reddot Design Award 2011

Kata has recently introduced the Source-261 PL backpack (KT PL-S-261) to its Pro- Light Collection and already it is being recognized for its  light weight and excellent protection capabilities. The Source has been awarded the prestigious 2011 reddot Design Award.

The reddot Design Award is an international design competition. This year more than 1,600 companies from more than 60 countries took part in the competition with a total of 4,433 entries.

The Source was competing in the “Entertainment Technology and Cameras” – a category that has had winners in previous years such as the iPod nano and the Nikon D3!

As an award winning product, the Source-261 PL backpack will be presented in:

  • the reddot design museum in Germany
  • the reddot Yearbook
  • the online exhibition

So what makes the Source-261 PL backpack worthy of this award?
The Kata Source-261 PL backpack features a combination of technology, materials and design which embody the ultimate essences of Lightweight Protection without compromises.

It has a specially formed, foam-encased, spring steel Spine Guard for ultimate structural protection and light yet durable RipStop fabrics & meshes. Its Aeriform foams and Spider Webbing straps all join together to create a protective yet fantastically light backpack.

The incredible modularity allows you to make it even lighter by simply removing components that are not necessary for your adventure.

The Source-261 PL backpack is a specialised carrying solution for a video digital single-lens reflex camera with accessories. It is divided into three compartments, allowing for practical gear arrangement. The camera is placed in the centre and secured with a fastening system. The side compartments in turn provide space for accessories, like a flash, lenses and other gear, while a tripod stand can be attached to the outside of the backpack with a strap. Another compartment provides space for laptops with screens up to 17”. This results in a carrying solution which is appealing, comfortable and functional in equal measure.
